Just so you know, the 'david' spamming you above is not me. Guess I changed my username just in time.

Besides, I disagree. A Russian mail-order bride could never match the one I found in Wisconsin. And just think of the postage...

Tim does leave a lot to be desired in his "complimentary" exposé on Cubs fans. To be honest... he has no idea of what it is like or what it means to be a Cubs fan, nor will he ever.

Cardinal's fans are bandwagoners to be honest. Look at how many fans "showed up" following there short (sweep) trip to the World Series. However the Cubs have an much larger fan base, who will stick with them through every Goat-Curse and Bartman-Ball. Let's see the Cardnials go 60 years without a visit to to the World Series and see how many fans they have and even if they are in St. Louis - I doubt it.

Let's also look at the stadiums - at least the Cubs have history and class behind their stadium, and not some retro-cookie cutter of a ball field. I mean, there isn't even a such thing as a "bleacher bum" at Busch Stadium. Why you ask?? Because they don't even have bleachers!

So puuuhhhleeesseee don't tell me the Cardnials have better fans, and a better city.

As someone who just moved back to God's Country (ie. the St. Louis area), I can say that it's a breath of fresh air to be out of range of Cub fans again. As a (former) resident of central IL, I had to deal with the incessant whine of "wait 'til next year" from the fans who unbelieveably continue to support a team that is listed in the dictionary under "hopeless".

And, he said Look at how many fans "showed up" following there short (sweep) trip to the World Series. Gee, I don't recall seeing any Cubs players at the World Series, or at ANY World Series since the Stone Age, during which time the Cardinals have appeared many, many times. And if you will look at attendance figures for the past dozen seasons or so, you will see a consistent attendance total of more than 3M fans per year - one of the largest counts in the majors.

I'll grant you one thing - Chicago is a much more interesting city than St. Louis. But when it comes to baseball fans, St. Louis has, at the least, some of the most knowledgeable and most intelligent fans in baseball. As far as Cubs fans are concerned - to stick with a team that simply is incapable of winning is, well - I can't even describe it...perhaps "masochistic" is the right term.

I'm the Steve McCoy, Cubs fan in the article. And though Tim is a great guy and a friend, he is ridiculously cardni-centric. I'm praying for him, as should all readers.

Bill (or anyone else I was "rude" too)... glad you are back by your own team... my wife said I was rude to you... if so, please forgive me. She also probably said that beause she is a Cardinals fan herself. Anyway I like the rivalry, it's a lot better than hearing about the BoSox and the Yankees... and a lot more civil. At least our players don't toss old men to the ground!

BTW - since the Cubs are all but mathematically eliminated, I am picking the Cards to win the Series in 6 this year. BUT WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR!

Go Cubs.

I got MLB (I.E. egotistical players, steroids, ridiculous salaries, even more ridiculous ticket prices)out of my system when the city of Lake Elsinore, CA built a beautiful stadium for the Class A Lake Elsinore Storm. I discovered affordable tickets ($5.00) for seats behind home plate, players who played aggresively and were part of the community, and an easy 10 minute drive from my house with literally no traffic. I've only been to one MLB since (that was in 1994). I went to a Padres game at the Murph and felt a mile away from the action and spent a ton on parking.
Now I'm in Sacramento, home of the AAA Rivercats.

Thanks. I've heard far, far ruder things from my former fellow central Illinoians, so I took no real offense at your comments! :-) Re: your wife - at least she wasn't a Royals fan during the 1985 World Series like mine was. That was a near-divorce experience...
