The interior of St. Paul's chapel. This is the Anglican church adjacent to the World Trade Center where rescue workers sought rest and refuge in the days after September 11. It's the oldest continually-occupied building in Manhattan, having been built in 1766. It's also part of the parish that sponsors the infamous "clown eucharists."

Pictures of old churches are neat. I would like to go and visit some old churches one day, but up where I live there are not many.

Great photos. Makes me almost like New York. My husband and I will be flying out to the east coast next week to New England (New Hampshire). We hang out in Boston sometimes...nice city. We hope to check out George Whitefield's gravesite since it is not far from my husband's hometown.

Thanks Phil. I have never been to Manhattan and have wanted to visit for a long time. I enjoyed a vicarious look-in here!
Quite liked the Empire State Building one - as King Kong is a bit of a topic where I live. Don't think I'll go see it but it has been getting talked about a lot.

The souvenir rack was great. Did you purchase that unusual round red pin with the banner on the top of it? It looks oddly familiar.

The snow in the forground of the fist picture really adds a lot of perspective.

That clown eucharist thing makes me crazy. Someone e-mailed me about it this week with a news clipping from May. I just can't bring myself to blog about it becuae it's so utterly upside down. How could anyone think it's a good idea?

BTW, someone wants me to make a t-shirt with your met-art picture on it. It's a cool graphic, but it is you face and logo and the only copy I have is too low-res to use. You should open a cafepress shop and sell them yourself ...

I'd rather see a clown eucharist than a dog eucharist, which is exactly what I read about in Time magazine a few months ago. The minister(ess) (it was actually an episcopal church) said the dogs and cats that attend their church enjoy making a joyful noise along with the others...

Just down the street from my office, there's a methodist church that has a "pet blessing" service once every two months. Our beagle wants to go, but she's still a puppy and I don't believe in pedobaptism.

I agree with Frank on the clown mass thing. Someone sent it to me a few days ago and it was so unfunny I couldn't post on it.

By the way Phil, I lost my wallet in NY in 1983. Its a 3-fold alligator with about $46.00 in cash and a picture of Farrah Fawcett in it. Let me know if you find it.

Unlike the rest of the universe, I am not a New York fan. But the pictures are really good, especially the cross.

All joking aside, there is a Catholic church that blesses pets once a year in my home town. Whoever said that the Catholic church is not inclusive doesnt know what their talking about.

Phil, have you ever thought of having wrigley baptised so his sins can be washed away?

Washing all Wrigley's sins away with mere water would require such a thorough and extended immersion that he would surely drown in the process.

Jubilant Sykes is awesome. I first experienced his voice a couple years back at the Dallas Symphony, where I too yelped, "Praise the Lord". He is a must see. I'm thrilled you got to hear him and mention him on your blog.
