They blew it up and there was nothing but worthless Japanese currency. Reading this account reminded me of some of the stories he used to tell me about the war. There was never a time that he talked about the war, where tears did not come to his eyes. He was not a Christian as far as I know. It was interesting to read this account from a Christian's perspective and how they really lived a life of faith!

Phil, thanks for sharing this with us. Years ago before they went to be with the Lord, I met them under some unfortunate circumstances.

Herb and Ruth were in a minor car accident on Cantara St. behind GCC. I assisted them as much as I could, and Herb insisted on getting my name and phone number.

Herb called me the next day to thank me for my help. I thought it spoke so well of Herb and Ruth that he would take the time to call me personally.Away From The Brinkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01437744242086239050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12723103.post-1128374936470692222005-10-03T14:28:00.000-07:002005-10-03T14:28:00.000-07:00Phil,This example certainly does exemplify why we ...Phil,

This example certainly does exemplify why we label these folks as members of the Greatest Generation. How rich I am to wake up everyday with food over and abundant-I even have some pudge to proove it-but these missionaries have something more valuable. Eternal life. I loved how Herb continued to give God glory and praise Him for eternal life rather than get angry b/c of the camp. they certainly had an understanding that everything they/we have we do not deserve and are given to us by God's grace alone.
AmazingAspiring Girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09669945568051191274noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12723103.post-1128355474081598852005-10-03T09:04:00.000-07:002005-10-03T09:04:00.000-07:00Thank you, Phil, for this wonderful, heart-wrenchi...Thank you, Phil, for this wonderful, heart-wrenching and faith-filled memory.Tom Geehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15363329987895368813noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12723103.post-1128354659400765172005-10-03T08:50:00.000-07:002005-10-03T08:50:00.000-07:00Thank you forthat Phil.
